The Best Things In Life Are Freak

by Tristan Da Cunha

A little bit of history about me. I decided to create Freakenstein as a channel for my inner freak. I wanted to have a project or alter ego that allowed me to be playful and serious at the same time. I wanted to be able to have fun with my appearance and create a character in the same way that greats like George Clinton, David Bowie or Drexciya would imagine these new musical worlds with characters that brought them to life .

My first appearance as Freakenstein was at Gottwood 2019 and was well received … not only by the crowd but also by Resident Advisor who included me in their top 5 performances of the festival . Apparently i knocked DJ Stingray out of the selection with my performance which was nice to hear as he is one of my inspirations, a real beacon of light and a vanguard in the electronic dance scene. With this fresh gust of wind under my wings I then went on to perform at other festivals and continued to turn some heads with my own unique take on electro, breaks and techno.

Gottwood Festival 2019: Five key performances

Some of the highlights for me were playing the IICON stage at Glastonbury twice and the Tantrum stage at Houghton the same amount of times (i’ll be performing at both festivals again this year also as well as Gottwood) . On the IICON and Houghton i developed a hybrid Live / DJ set harnessing the latest technology that blurs the lines between live performance and playing other people’s music . Using the CDJ3000s , DJ V10 mixer and the Toraiz SP16 i am exploring new realms of the tune-i-verse and pushing the envelope further.

At the same time as getting freaky on the 1’s & 2’s I have been simultaneously getting busy in the studio. Working on original material , edits & remixes that i can use in my DJ sets. I soon realised that this was one way to really make my sets unique and give my sound personality and character, something i feel is important for an artist to do in order to make a mark and stand out.

So far i have had releases on my own label Hearlucinate and Unknown To The Unknown which have floated fairly under the radar . However i’m really excited to present my new label FWEAKY which will be dropping this year with lots of music from myself and other artists I admire .

With more anticipated appearances and releases on the horizon I am super excited and can’t wait to share the magic with all of you!

Thank you for taking the time to pass by to read about me. Subscribe to my newsletter to stay up to date with my freaky musings, new releases and where you can catch me live to unleash your inner freak on the dance floor.
